This detached rural property has a large south facing roof which was ideal for a hybrid system with solar thermal and PV.  We fitted a back boiler to an existing wood stove and connected this to a 250 litre thermal store. Now the householders are able to make greater use of the wood stove, which, via the thermal store, supplies heat to the central heating radiators.

We installed a 40-tube solar collector, which provides virtually all the domestic hot water from late spring to early autumn, but is also sized to achieve supplemental support for heating during early spring and late autumn. An LPG boiler is also linked to the thermal store to automatically top-up any shortfall from the solar or the wood stove.
