The heating and hot water system in this large 16th century detached property has been converted from ineffectual and expensive electric night storage heaters to a wet central heating system heated using wood pellets.

We have installed a 60 kW Herz Pelletstar pellet boiler and 1000 litre buffer store in a purpose-built plant room connected via a buried heat main to both the main house and to the annexe. An 8 tonne pellet store is integrated into the plant room. Wood pellets are transported by a flexi auger to the boiler. The store is expected to need refuelling between 2 and 3 times a year.

In each of the properties the heat main is indirectly connected to the heating and hot water distribution system via a heat exchanger.

Itron Echo CF heat meters monitor the transfer of heat from the buffer tank into each of the properties.
