This large indoor swimming pool lies within the curtilage of a Grade 1 listed building. The pool is in use throughout the year and to reduce the energy used to heat it we replaced two old gas boilers with high efficiency condensing boilers and installed a 160 tube solar thermal array within an inverted roof pitch above the pool.

The solar collectors are connected to a heat exchanger in the swimming pool filtration circuit via a dual line pump station. Because of the architectural sensitivity of the site we designed a system that would not be visible from the ground or from nearby vantage points.

The solar thermal array is able to maintain the temperature in the pool through from late spring to early autumn, with the gas boilers topping up the heating at other times.
