We were involved at the outset in the design of the power, heating and hot water systems for this capacious new build property, which looks out over the South Downs. Planning permission was granted under a dispensation for building designs of special architectural merit.
We installed a 15.64 kWp PV array comprising 46 x JA Solar 340Wp modules on the flat roof of the building. The array is orientated east/west, ballasted and low profile so that it is not visible from ground level. The grid connection uses two Solis 6 kW hybrid inverters suitable for DC coupling to a battery in future.
A 1000L tank-in-tank hot water cylinder provides both hot water and buffer storage for the space heating system. This is heated by two NIBE S2125 air source heat pumps (12kW and 8kW) via a Microflex heat main and also a Hoxter Haka 63/51 WT double-sided insert boiler stove which allows the heating to be topped up by burning logs during peak periods. The heating buffer is connected to 3 UFH manifolds.
Self-consumption of the power generated by the PV array is enhanced by 2 Myenergi Zappi EV chargers and an Eddi PV diverter switch which diverts surplus power generated by the array to an immersion heater to heat hot water.
