Dual orientation solar collectors installed at this small terraced cottage located in an urban conservation area. Two 20 tube collectors are set on either side of the steep east-west pitch. The space heating is provided by storage heaters using off-peak electricity (Economy 7 tariff).

The collector area is large in relation to occupancy, supplying a relatively high proportion of the energy usage for domestic hot water (solar fraction 70%+). Auxiliary heating is supplied by an electric immersion heater using off-peak electricity.

During peak irradiation excess heat from the solar collectors is dissipated through a bypass radiator.
