Ever since the old coal fired boiler broke down in the early 1960’s the only heating in this large, historic country house has been supplied by a small LPG boiler which provided DHW and heated only a few of the rooms. Three adjoining flats each had individual LPG boilers supplying heat to their own separate central heating systems.
We were able to install a 99 kW Herz Firematic biomass boiler along with 1,650 litres of buffer storage and an 8 tonne pellet store into the basement of the house.
The boiler supplies heat to the main house and to the flats via plate exchangers, each of which is connected indirectly into the central heating system. The existing LPG boilers have been retained and a changeover switch allows the user to switch back to LPG if the biomass boiler is undergoing maintenance.
